I love this picture. I love the pretty summer colors of our dresses and the glow of our sunkissed skin. I loved meeting Peter for the first time and love the fact that he still comes around after a weekend with our group. I love that Polly thought out of the box and is wearing a short & sassy wedding dress with a fishnet veil.

Weekend Recap: Before & After

This past weekend we continued with the baby to do list and moved some more furniture.

And the glass doored bookshelf that was full of UGA chatzkis found a lovely new home in our dining room and is now full of Spode Woodland that was hanging in the guest room. It has been fun to "redecorate" and refresh things!

We also cleaned out one (of MANY!) closets.

I am very pleased with how much work we have done so far in January. It hasn't been that bad either or at least not to me. John?

Happy Birthday Lauren!

Lauren's birthday was actually in December but we postponed celebrating until Saturday night. It was fun to have something to look forward to in cold & boring January.

We had dinner at One Midtown Kitchen

Lindsey, Carrie, Kyle & Erin

or

3 Blondes & a Brunette which we had thought about naming our Real Estate Company once upon a time!

Then everyone headed to Smith's Old Bar to hear Dirty Dozen Brass Band. We decided it would probably be too smokey for the baby and headed home!

This picture was taken in the Dining Cart on our 18 hour Amtrak Train Adventure from Atlanta to New York City last Christmas. Don't worry, we flew back to Atlanta 5 days later. Would I do it again? Yes, with my own pillow, Tylenol PM, earplugs and an eye mask.

20 Week Ultrasound

We had our big ultrasound this morning and invited both of the mothers to go with us. Unfortunately, my mother is out of town nursing my sweet aunt back to health after reconstructive breast surgery (she is a 13 year breast cancer survivor!) so just Angie was able to attend. I have attached all pictures, mainly so my mom can look at them and feel like she was there too!
Some highlights:
  • Baby was moving ALOT! It was all over the place.
  • Baby was opening it's mouth and sticking out it's tongue (must be a girl!)
  • the ultrasound technician commented on how long the Baby's toes are (wonder where it gets that from?!?)
  • Baby weighs exactly 1 pound
  • Baby is measuring at 21 weeks 6 days (instead of 20 weeks 3 days!) so that is 10 days ahead, which puts the baby at a May 21 arrival. BUT, they are not changing my due date at this time. The Baby is likely to have had a recent growth spurt and could easily even out towards the end. We just think it is funny and are fully aware that we are not having a petite baby.
  • the momma has gained a total of 8 pounds and is very happy with that number!

  • Baby still has a strong heart beat and we saw all 4 chambers of the heart

On the Eve of our 20 Week/Gender Ultrasound....

I had my new group of Junior League Provisionals over for dinner. One of my provisionals has a 3 year old little boy. She was told she was having a GIRL. Custom bedding (=non-returnable) ordered for a little girl. Baby showers for a little girl. Clothes for a little girl. Quite possibly Kyle's worst nightmare. So, Sweet Baby Hinson, you will still remain an "it" for another 20 weeks but be loved all the same and more!

Half Way to Baby! 20 weeks!

We hit the half way mark today in our pregnancy and cannot even believe it. The past 16 weeks have flown by so I can't imagine how fast the next 20 will go. And it is really getting exciting. Not that is wasn't exciting before but with all day morning sickness and a fear of something happening, it was hard to start planning and shopping. But those days are over! We are in full on baby mode and loving every second of it (well besides the time spent at BRU, see #1 below). That is why we are trying to check things off of our baby to do list. We are trying to do one or two tasks a weekend to make it more managable in the long term and we succeeded this weekend. Woo Hoo! My goal is to be completely ready for the baby by May 1st. Please hold me accountable to that!

Tasks for the weekend included:

1. Register at Babies R Us
DONE! (well at least started, need to go back)

I was very prepared for this outing. I have compiled several different lists from other newer mothers of absolute must haves, they were printed and in a folder. We were completely overwhelmed for the mere 1.5 hours we were at the store. It was easier planning a wedding for 10.5 months.

Typical conversation through the whole store, on repeat:
Kyle: John, which one should we get?
John: I don't know, what do you think?
Kyle: I don't know, I have never done this before.
John: Me either.

2. Order crib and changing table
Not exactly done, but I am going Monday to do so! We did make the final decision and are very happy with our choices.

3. Move tall bookshelf from guest room/office (baby's room) to hall
DONE!
Before

After

Not my favorite location for the bookshelf but it turned out much better than I had expected. You do whatcha you gotta do when you have 1300 square feet to work with. And it covers up the ugly fuse box. Now just knock on wood I don't blow a fuse while blow drying my hair, it has never happened before!

Other baby related news:

I have been feeling the baby move for about the last 2 weeks. It is so surreal.

We went to our first prenatal class at Piedmont this week. It was good and I was glad that John got to hear about typical pregnancy symptoms from a professional, just in case he thought I was making this stuff up!

I have signed us up for a infant CPR class, a co-ed breastfeeding class and an all day childbirth class, all occuring in the next 3 months. We are also scheduled for 3 "Meet and Greets" with pediatricians.

Our friends Adrienne and Stuart found out they are having a BOY. Adrienne is due May 22.

I start a prenatal pilates class on Wednesday night. That should be a sight. I am sure there will be good stories to come!

We have our 20 week ultrasound on Wednesday morning. I will post new pictures later that day. I can't wait to see our little sweet pea!

Welcome to the world, Baby Nichols!

One of John's best friends and fraternity brothers, Brent Nichols and his wife Lindsey, welcomed a baby girl into the world on Thursday. We went to Piedmont on Friday night to visit them and she is precious and so tiny! Lindsey was due on Christmas Day and 2 weeks later, the baby made her grand apperance on Elvis' birthday. Congratulations to The Nichols Family!

Happy Birthday Elvis!

Elvis would have been 74 today. One of my biggest regrets in life is that I did not get to see him in person. Is it still called a regret if it is completely out of your control?

So I will have to settle for this....one of the best moments of my entire life.
John and I still can't believe we actually pulled this off.

If the baby's first word is Elvis, I will be a proud momma.

New Year's Day 2009

The Fowler's hosted a wonderful New Year's Day luncheon at their house. Lunch included all of the staples: Honey Baked Ham, black-eyed peas, collard greens, hashbrown casserole and cornbread.

After lunch we headed to the basement to sit by the fire, roast s'mores and watch the rest of the Georgia game. Go Dawgs!
